My first solo show with the new studio board. Not too bad. Road weary from the drive back from Nashville today, I didn't do too much energetic cheering or anything, just jammed out with some bitchin' tunes. Interesting facts about Nashville, TN. Kip Winger lives there and produces records, Mark Slaughter lives there as well and we mustn't leave out at least one of the Nelson bros. Matthew or Gunnar. Just think how many cool people must live there, as well!

Motivational Hiatus

Yeah, Chris and I did not get a slot this semester. What a lame way to go out... like Babe Ruth getting cut from the Yankees. Anyway, there won't be any new shows posted, but we will refresh the site with 2 years of archive shows. Clare has exhumed a long-lost show from sometime back in '02 that was trapped in my VCR since that time (the shows are stored on VHS tapes, by the way). That'll probably make it on the site soon.

My apologies for not having the farewell show posted. It's hopefully on my hard drive that my computer won't recognize. We'll see how that plays out.

Overdue Metal Bubblegum that You Can't Sleep Through

"How am I supposed to fall asleep to this?" was the question on the phone. Clare wasn't digging the soothing sounds of metal that Chris picked out, so we tried some Gordon Lightfoot, but the CD player bit it and we continued on with Rudy Ray Moore, the most relaxed man in history. Check my data. Listen to the show HERE.

I played stuff from my overdue library CDs, especially "Top 25 Bubblegum Hits." The day after Dudestalk always brings mass outbreaks of hangovers, and I was beat. Dudestalk came though beautifully, both for great rock and plain-view humping punks in the grass. Yep, free sex show. Dylan, of Fly TV, tried to get a shot, but it was too dark and the camera light may have disturbed the subjects.

Anyone who stuck around for my slot at the end of the night, you got quite a mess. I was worthless, I know. Too much fun beforehand.

My harddrive wasn't big enough, but now I've got a monster-sized one on the way so I'll never have this problem again. For now, I'm testing the water by posting our show from Feb. 22, 2004. Perhaps we did. The only thing significant about this show, distinguishing it from the others is that I made no attempt to record it, I didn't have a videotape and I didn't feel like fucking with it. For those of you new to this page, we record our radio shows and if you want to hear the radio show... we can send you a CD containing the show in MP3 format. All we ask is a donation of $3 if we have to mail it to you(cost of CD, packaging and shipping), $1 if we hand it to you in person or nothing if we send you the file through the internet somehow, which would take some time. Whatever, you can't get this week's show because we didn't tape it. Just about all of the other ones are either in Mp3 format or at least stored on a video tape, our recording media of choice. It's late right now, so I'm moving on to the playlist. I've been getting lazy about placing pictures and links... because I keep busy, but I'll do my best. Get ahold of me if you need something.

Ray Charles was, or at least his nickname and music denote such. Captain Fade-out was no presence for most of the night. He was in Clinton, rocking out with SignSedSo. Motivational Karaoke is once again preceeded by Mr. Mike Perillo (8pm-10pm) and it is a good feeling to follow good music. Other than this news, I have none... except... MCLUSKY! DJ Fired for Celebrating Reagan's Death

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A college disc jockey who put on a radio show celebrating Ronald Reagan (news - web sites)'s death was fired Friday from his position as the station's business manager.

Scott Hornyak, a 28-year-old undergraduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, had been suspended indefinitely from his disc jockey job at KSUA-FM after the Sunday show.

"They're firing me because of what I said, and the public's reaction to what I said," said Hornyak, who goes by the call name "Spider Bui."

H.B. Telling, the station's general manager, said he could not comment on whether Hornyak lost his job because of the broadcast. The university has a policy against discussing personnel issues.

No tape of the show was available. But according to Hornyak, he berated Reagan, who died June 5, for his foreign policy in Latin America, Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites), and for his response to the AIDS (news - web sites) epidemic.

Hornyak said the show was "a celebration that Ronald Reagan was dead, was finally dead," and that he told listeners he wanted to "walk over the newly laid dirt" on Reagan's grave.

Telling said the station received numerous complaints about the show.

Telling said Hornyak was suspended as a disc jockey solely because of his failure to obey the station's rules, not because of the inflammatory content of the show.

He said Hornyak did not fill out a log of the songs he played on air and did not play the station's standard disclaimers announcing that his views did not represent those of the station or the university.

Hornyak said he did not fill out the logs due to absent-mindedness and that he did not play the disclaimer because he was busy taking song requests.

Hornyak said he was not sure whether he will contest his firing.

(Chicago) at Bloomington's Illinois Brewing Company this Friday night (June 11th). Show starts at 10pm and there is no cover. If you didn't gather by the "brewing" part... it's a bar and you must be either 21+, sneaky or a Rob Allen impersonator to get in. This will surely go down in history as a night of high altitude rock n roll.

Remote Radio Cohosts.

Tonight was an experiment of sorts. I, Dr. ArsoNick Scum, PhD, stayed home because I was tired. I participated in two CIBL baseball games earlier in the day and I got 3 hits, a double, several RBIs and so on. I'm good. Tonight was so rockin' that Bloomington went topless and Normal went under! Don't know what I mean? Look around town. Actually we just played a lot of rock n' roll type material. Tonight was good. I, Dr. Scum, came directly from a Super88 gig in E. Peoria, where we played with the Bloomington band, The Locked Sound, and Bloomington, INDIANA band, John Wilkes Booze. Very good bands.

I played a lot of stuff that I saw in Austin, TX for the ol' South By Southwest music conference a couple of weekends ago. It's 4 am here, fuck this. I'm going to bed.

Next week we may or may not be here in the studio... being Easter Sunday and all. We'll do our best to motivate the masses.

Dr. Scum Fired From Tobins Pizza

Your beloved late night radio host, Dr. ArsoNick Scum, PhD. was recently informed that he was fired from local pizza establishment, Tobins Pizza. While the news came as a surprise, he (I) was not hurt. I didn't really work there any way. I was a substitute delivery driver. Perhaps more importantly, I was working as an investigative reporter. The suits finally caught wind of my Internet journalism and found it quite unsatisfying. The one thing that I, the author, will say about the piece is that thankfully this one was true. All the accounts documented in the article were either witnessed first hand or were handed down, first generation, from trusted persons within (or formerly within) the business. I do not apologize, for exposing what I did, although, looking back at the article, it may have been a bit "mean." Then again, I wasn't the only mean one involved. Without further adieu, I give you a reprint of the original story, taken from the ArsoNick Scum House of News. For anyone, especially current and former employees of Tobins, this subject will be discussed on Sunday night's show.

Tobins Pizza Owner Continues to Drive Business Into Ground.

(AS) Bloomington, IL - While the idea was to keep the
public from knowing that Tobins Pizza founder, Jim
Tobin, no longer owned the business (a move designed
to deter customers from altering their pizza loyalty),
it should be known that Mr. Tobin is not the idiot
that is running his name into the ground.

Current owner, Moe Davis, and his small-town
capitalist hillbilly ideals are apparently ripping the
Bloomington/Normal institution apart at the very
foundation. Those who have worked in the food service
industry know that the presence of cannibis (aka dope,
weed, pot, mac special, marijuana) in the systems of
employees is as prevalent as cheese on the product.
However, Mr. Davis feels that he needs to irradicate
THC from the blood of his business. Mr. Davis, has
been quoted as saying, "anyone who does that is white
trash as far as I'm concerned." Willie Nelson and
former President William Clinton could not be reached
for comments.

While his more experienced, intelligent, and cultured
managers attempted to explain to him that he (Davis)
would find it easier to look the other way, the
stubborn jerk (who has also been heard using sexist
and racist language) took a George W. Bush-like stance
and declared that he would rid the second-rate pizza
operation of all drugs. His first move was to put a
sign on the wall stating that any employee possessing
any drug would be "terminated." Just as G.W. has yet
to round up Osama Bin Laden, Moe Davis has yet to
accomplish shit in terms of ridding the once
prosperous business of marijuana.

"You can't stop these guys from getting high... what
else do they have?" pondered long-time Tobins manager,
"Uncle" Larry Crummett, who has undoubtedly seen over
one thousand potheads receive paychecks from his
employer. Former general manager, Mike "Latenight"
Neal added that Mr. Davis is, "not smart."

The overweight and bald conservative Davis has brought
his persecution of the Tobins Cartel to a head this
week after he found a bag containing doobie in the
parking lot of his business. His response was to
contact the Bloomington Police Department and have
officers come and run ID checks on all of his
employees (his customers, who use the parking lot were
not checked). Apparently there were no arrests made
invlolving the said bag, however, one employee,
perhaps his most valuable, was arrested for an
outstanding five year-old warrant, of which the
employee was unaware of.

What did Moe Davis gain from this experience? It is
likely that as usual he learned absolutely nothing.
His own personal war on drugs has perhaps cost him a
valuable asset and any remaining shred of loyalty (ha)
from his employees. It is doubtful that Moe Dumbis
will ever learn the values of being open-minded and
respectful towards those who work for him. Perhaps
when he dies and goes to the heaven for wealthy white
Republicans, he will be able to open a restaurant
packed with employees that work for less than minimum
wage and pass daily drug tests. Perhaps he will also
be informed by his capitalist God that it is not right
to give a Mexican employee health insurance and salary
in exchange for his long-time service then two days
later call him a "taco bender" to his face. Perhaps he
will be informed by God Jr. that it is not really OK
to pat his female employees on the ass. Perhaps he
would not do things of that nature at all if his wife
was not going bald as fast as he is.

In conclusion, think twice before you fatten his bank
account and think twice before ordering food from any
business in town that offers the second-rate beverage,
"RC Cola," of which he is the distributer.

Also, don't bother trying to find the Tobins Pizza
website... Tobins will forever remain in a decade far,
far away.

Disaster In Doctor's Head Broadcast in FM.

(AP) Bloomington, IL - Effectively ending Sunday Febuary 29th and beginning the monthg of March, Motivational Karaoke blasted out the airwaves a little late and just a little disorganizedly as resident sex scientist and chairman of the Council for Sex Sciences, Dr. ArsoNick Scum came in under the influence and scattered above the chin and behind the nose. When asked if he felt his performance inhibited cohost, Chris "The Fade-Out" G in any way, Scum responded by saying "Chris is a big boy... but that does not mean that he doesn't sometimes slip in his own shit, so if he's got something bitter to say towards me for fucking up the whole god damned show... fuck him... fuck him all the way."

Fade-Out was unavailable for and/or uninterested in comment.

Bloomington (AP) - It's official. Motivational Karaoke has completed two consective shows during this new era. No big deal, say the masses. Fuck them. I, Dr. ArsoNick Scum, PhD, was not there, due to circumstances that had me rocking my ass off with Super 88 in Peoria (technically Bellvue), IL. MISSION FOR THE PUBLIC!

Eternal happiness in heaven for anyone brave enough to supply us with photos of nearly nude girls sunbathing on campus! I want to put together something called "ISU Beach, 2003" and sell it to... well just look at it.

Pointers:
On a really nice day, walk through ISU's quad and feast upon pseudobeach setting where girls lie on the ground in bikinis. In special cases, girls with avoid tan lines by yanking their bikini bottoms up the crack of their ass and/or untying their bikini tops (unfortunately while lying tits down. Other places to see great things are by the basketball courts at the Hewett/Manchester dorms and up and down Locust and Willow Streets between Linden and Main.

Reminder:

No Chris again tonight, but I think I did alright... thanks for all the listener participation from Kelly (my 8-10 predecessor), the fine ladies at the desk of Ferguson, Krista from WZND and her roommate and others... even the person who requests Roy G. Tobins Pizza Owner Continues to Drive Business Into Ground.

(AS) Bloomington, IL - While the idea was to keep the public from knowing that Tobins Pizza founder, Jim Tobin, no longer owned the business (a move designed to deter customers from altering their pizza loyalty), it should be known that Mr. Tobin is not the idiot that is running his name into the ground.

Current owner, Moe Davis, and his small-town capitalist hillbilly ideals are apparently ripping the Bloomington/Normal institution apart at the very foundation. Those who have worked in the food service industry know that the presence of cannibis (aka dope, weed, pot, mac special, marijuana) in the systems of employees is as prevalent as cheese on the product. However, Mr. Davis feels that he needs to irradicate THC from the blood of his business. Mr. Davis, has been quoted as saying, "anyone who does that is white trash as far as I'm concerned." Willie Nelson and former President William Clinton could not be reached for comments.

While his more experienced, intelligent, and cultured managers attempted to explain to him that he (Davis) would find it easier to look the other way, the stubborn jerk (who has also been heard using sexist and racist language) took a George W. Bush-like stance and declared that he would rid the second-rate pizza operation of all drugs. His first move was to put a sign on the wall stating that any employee possessing any drug would be "terminated." Just as G.W. has yet to round up Osama Bin Laden, Moe Davis has yet to accomplish shit in terms of ridding the once prosperous business of marijuana.

"You can't stop these guys from getting high... what else do they have?" pondered long-time Tobins manager, "Uncle" Larry Crummett, who has undoubtedly seen over one thousand potheads receive paychecks from his employer. Former general manager, Mike "Latenight" Neal added that Mr. Davis is, "not smart."

The overweight and bald conservative Davis has brought his persecution of the Tobins Cartel to a head this week after he found a bag containing doobie in the parking lot of his business. His response was to contact the Bloomington Police Department and have officers come and run ID checks on all of his employees (his customers, who use the parking lot were not checked). Apparently there were no arrests made invlolving the said bag, however, one employee, perhaps his most valuable, was arrested for an outstanding five year-old warrant, of which the employee was unaware of.

What did Moe Davis gain from this experience? It is likely that as usual he learned absolutely nothing. His own personal war on drugs has perhaps cost him a valuable asset and any remaining shred of loyalty (ha) from his employees. It is doubtful that Moe Dumbis will ever learn the values of being open-minded and respectful towards those who work for him. Perhaps when he dies and goes to the heaven for wealthy white Republicans, he will be able to open a restaurant packed with employees that work for less than minimum wage and pass daily drug tests. Perhaps he will also be informed by his capitalist God that it is not right to give a Mexican employee health insurance and salary in exchange for his long-time service then two days later call him a "taco bender" to his face. Perhaps he will be informed by God Jr. that it is not really OK to pat his female employees on the ass. Perhaps he would not do things of that nature at all if his wife was not going bald as fast as he is.

In conclusion, think twice before you fatten his bank account and think twice before ordering food from any business in town that offers the second-rate beverage, "RC Cola," of which he is the distributer.

Also, don't bother trying to find the Tobins Pizza website... Tobins will forever remain in a decade far, far away.

Upon reading over our playlist, however, I've noticed that this is the first show where we did not play a single Sloan song! Say it isn't so, Fadeout. Does this mean that without Sloan the shows go better? No, I believe it does not.

Speaking of shows, I need to get on the horn with Nick. There are two issues regarding this upcoming weekend. If you read this, Dr. Nick, give me a buzz on the slipperphone. I will have it on as I travel north to not park.

I called Chris last night on his cellular slipperphone to leave him a message stating that as I reviewed the game films, I felt that last night was the best show that we've ever done. Despite a new hardware calmity. While CD player #2 is almost useless because of it's skipping qualities, CD player #1 seems to occassionally decide to play some tracks "quickly." I couldn't figure it out at the time, but reviewing the game films I witnessed that some songs were significantly more highly pitched. At one time in the studio I thought that newsman Trevor McCoy's computer botched the burning of our show promo that we played on the air, but his computer is fine. Soon we will only be playing vinyl through the 40 year old switchboard that currently has no audition function... not allowing us to cue the records properly before playing them. If you hear us sampling records during a CD... that's what we're doing... semi-creatively finding specific spots on records.

I'd like to add that while Illinois Wesleyan University has the money for new equipment or at least the repair of what is there, WESN is not getting the money, so please don't blame the station, or us, or our parents. You are suffering with us through a case of bureaucracyitis. Since we usually play records at the wrong speed, we didn't think you'd even notice the latest equipment bonker, but we share everything with our loyal listeners, who coincidentally have no idea about this site.

Plus! Thanks to Ninos and especially Kurt who captured the spirit of the 8-bit generation by consuming lots of beer and calling the station to participate. At 6pm when I was running the board for Open Mic guest hosts of the week, Trevor and Tom, Kurt was calling in drunk and I was pleased to hear reports of him calling into new guy, Puckett's show, "The Big Lebowski," at midnight. That's about over six hours of shoutouts to Ninos in one night. Nice work!

That's my headline, billions, and I am going to stand by it. I saw Jello Biafra speak tonight, and I have the weekend off. Yes, it's true, and I am a better me for it.

If you care to expect them, you can expect playlists from the past two shows to be up this weekend. Also this weekend - Sunday, to be exact - ArsoNick and I will be doing Motivational Karaoke for 4 hours, beginning at 6pm on the 27th. I don't know how we'll react to beginning our show in the daylight. Wait a second! I believe this Sunday marks Daylight Savings day, but which way? Which way? Interesting Fact:

Born to a German-American family in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1904, Theodor Geisel began his cartooning career at Dartmouth College, where he contributed to the humor magazine. After a run-in with college authorities for bootlegging liquor, he had to use a pseudonym to get his work published, choosing his middle name, Seuss, and adding "Dr." several years later when he dropped out of graduate school at Oxford University in England. He had never planned on setting poison political pen to paper until he realized his deep hatred of Italian fascism. Should Be Official.

WESN's Sunday 10-12 dj did not show up and that will almost assuredly assign her to inactive duty. In other words, expect to hear The 8-Bit Generation's Mike Perillo in that spot from now on.

To those of you who failed to listen this Sunday, Chris and I rocked the 8-10 in our usual fashion, then joined Dam Mysterious and Dr. Androll for a psychedelic radio jamboree from 10-12. We played all vinyl with the exception of countless atari 2600 (excuse our 4-bittedness) clips from the WESN computer. Open Mic w/ Dam Mysterious then premiered at midnight. While no guests were featured, Dam took the opporitunity to spotlight Peoria pop legends, Dollface, and then featured a host of Beck hits to celebrate the release of his new album, Sea Change, this Tuesday.

For those of you who did listen... sucker!

Chris and I pulled another 6-hour shift this Sunday as we filled in for Damn Mysterious and episode 2 failed to appear. Also failing to appear was Open Mic guest, Boo Boo McSwain. No word on what happened to that creep.

Welcome, Jerks!

(AP) Bloomington, IL - I Nick, do solemnly welcome you to this thing. Amen.

This Sunday, Sept. 15th, we will be on the air at our usual time as well as the "Open Mic w/ Dam Mysterious" time slot from midnight to 2am. Tyson will be wrapping up the Red Hot Valentines tour and will not be attending.

Chris and I will most likely have the pseudoguest, Boo Boo McSwain at midnight, and we'll have our usual high quality professionalism at 8.

In the event that the 10-12 show vaporizes again, we'll do that one, too.
